About Us
Bally Mountain Creations established in 2020
We are a fledgling upcycling small business founded during the early stages of Covid-19 lockdowns and inspired by the preceding disastrous climate events experienced around Australia. Looking out to Bally Mountain in South-east Queensland, BMC began operations from home as a way of keeping busy when life as we knew it had stopped and supplies were limited. Drawing on generations of family smithing skills and sewing skills learned some years earlier when living in remote areas of Australia, Founder Claire Bunton initially made face masks for the local community and family members. We then moved into simple washable shopping bags. Experience became competence in more advanced concepts of bag making and design. Competence paved the way for growth and our Etsy shop of sustainable bags was born.
When life began to return to normal, we ventured into local artisan markets and fairs. Three years later BMC has established a following and a reputation within Australia for quality one-of-a-kind bags. We are 100% custom made using remnant materials (unless otherwise specified). We upcycle materials wherever possible to create a unique product for any style of conscientious fashion. We prewash using eco-friendly detergents and use an eco-friendly non-toxic fabric protector to protect the finished product where materials allow. In keeping with our sustainable approach, each product we make aims to foster sustainable behaviour by being functional and recyclable as well as fashionable.
